Grunge fashion was once considered a mismatched scenic outfit that appears to be dark and tattered. It was a cultural intersection between music and poverty and wasn't supposed to be fashionable according to author Ali Basye. This style was so deviant that it actually became a fashion statement on its own by depicting an attitude that doesn't bother to be on-trend or "normal". It was characterized by over-sized sweaters, beanies, ripped denims, sneakers, mismatched colors or prints.

Grunge was said to be anti-fashion yet it is one of those trends that often revives through time. Same with other trends that made a comeback, grunge was given a modern twist to achieve that fresh, exciting, youthful vibe.
This year, fashion enthusiasts gave the dark, tattered, grunge look a glam touch by adding bold prints to it. If people in the 90's see what this year has in store, they would probably doubt the grunge-ness of these looks. Nevertheless, these looks are what we consider these days as Modern Grunge:
